From finding the right shoe for baby to this season’s latest trends, we asked our shoe vendors, Pediped and Robeez, to give us the scoop on shoes for infants and toddlers.
1. What should parents look for when purchasing shoes for an infant? A toddler?
Pediped: Pediatricians and podiatrists recommend children learn to walk barefoot so their feet can develop naturally. When barefoot walking isn’t practical, infant shoes should mimic barefoot walking as much as possible. pediped Originals® allow children’s feet to develop naturally and are made with a soft sole and minimal padding to allow children’s toes to feel and grip the floor – just like barefoot walking.
Toddlers are constantly on-the-go and require a bit more protection. We recommend parents look for an ultra lightweight shoe with extreme flexibility. The pediped Grip-n-Go™ line adds a thin rubber sole that continues to mimic the shape of a child’s foot, helping with their balance and offering more protection.
Robeez: Robeez footwear mimics bare feet by flexing and bending with every step. Supporting not constricting growing feet, they promote good balance and unrestricted growth, while protecting little feet from the world. They stay on too, with elasticized ankles to ensure a perfectly snug fit.
2. What makes your shoes different than others on the market?
Pediped: Our shoes are designed first and foremost for healthy foot development. We require our shoes to be extremely comfortable and flexible. Our second priority is creating stylish shoes that parents and kids can relate to all while keeping them beneficial for children’s growing feet.
Robeez: Using high quality leather and materials, Robeez shoes are both comfortable and durable while their softer soles cushion feet and allow toes a better grip, helping balance, encouraging muscle growth and preventing slipping.
From crawling to cruising, walking to running, for indoors and out, Robeez makes shoes for newborns to two year-olds that promote healthy foot development while being fashionable and fun to wear.
Mini Shoez have a stylish and fun appeal as they take their fashion cues from styles that Mom or Dad might wear. Mini Shoez flex and bend with every step. They promote good balance and unrestricted growth, while protecting small feet from the world.
3. What new trends are you seeing in kids’ shoes?
Pediped: This fall we are seeing really beautiful, saturated colors like rose and eggplant. We are also watching metallic colors become the new neutrals. Finally, athletic inspired styles are becoming equally popular amongst boys and girls, and are increasingly becoming available for children of younger ages.
Robeez: We’re seeing more adult looks taken down to kid styles such as very sophisticated looks, adult silhouettes, pops of color in different materials on a neutral base or colored outsoles for a fun twist.
