I have to admit it – I am a massage snob. In my 13+ years as a massage therapist, I have grown quite picky about the treatments I receive and am reluctant to go to an unknown spa with an unknown therapist. An unsatisfying massage is way up there on my avoid-at-all-costs list.
However, I do adore the spa experience. You know those little bowls of free something they have there for you – usually apples or something healthy – I love those. I know…itís just an apple, but itís there for me – and for free! Just one of the little details that makes you feel pampered. And the pitchers of water – some with lemon, some with cucumber, some with lime. And the vanity complete with hairspray, q-tips, moisturizer…ah, the simple pleasures.
And I love the treatment rooms – dim lights, soft music playing, comfy pillows, and soft sheets. I have a Pavlovian response every time I step over the threshold, instantly feeling myself relax.
To tell you the truth, though, I could have a massage on the hood of a car as long as: a) the therapist is skilled; and b) they are using the right product. What is the right product, you ask? I guess that is in the eye of the beholder…or skin, as it were.
No matter what the preferred smell or consistency, to me, the right product is something that evokes the spa-experience no matter where I am. That scent – clean and fresh, smelling of natural oils and wonderful aromatherapy products like mint and chamomile. Grapeseed, lavender, eucalyptus… The feel – luxurious, emollient.
Second only to the talent of the therapist, the products make or break the treatment. They help create the mood and can be absolutely transformative, allowing you to go anywhere in your imagination.
So as you can probably guess, I am thrilled that starting next week, the massage therapists at Isis will begin using a selection of our favorite products by Basq, Mama Mio, and HobaCare. And whatís really great is the client gets to choose which ones! When you get a massage at Isis, not only will you be able to pick the oil or cream for all over, but you can also choose other specialty products to be used – like rich butters for stretch marks, energizing lotions for tired legs, aromatherapy oils to help with relaxation and sleep. See the complete menu of options.
I used some of these products on a client the other day for a test run, and she was in massage heaven! She even commented how the room smelled like a spa. At least, Iím pretty sure thatís what she mumbled into the pillow – accompanied by a deep sigh and a satisfied smile!
