We love receiving your birth stories! That’s why we’re featuring some of the most popular birth stories you’ve shared with us each week .
Autumn Kinsley Glass was born on Friday, September 9th, exactly one week before her due date. I had my 39 week checkup that morning and my doctor thought we’d go into labor soon since I was 3 cm dilated and had been 1 cm the week before.
I had mild contractions throughout the day, but nothing consistent so I didn’t think much of them. My husband Greg and I had just finished eating dinner around 8:30 that night when all of a sudden my water broke.
We started timing my contractions and they were almost 3 minutes apart, lasting around a minute each and getting more painful with each one. My husband called the doctor, who told us we should head in.
We finally got to the hospital around 10 and when they checked my cervix, they looked at me and asked if I was ready to have a baby. I was fully dilated! I instantly felt the urge to push and they rushed us into the labor and delivery room. Autumn was born at 10:40. Two hours from start to finish!
We had taken the Natural Childbirth class at Isis. At one point while we were waiting for the initial cervix check, Greg tried some of the massage techniques we learned in class, which really helped. For the most part, I was using the breathing techniques (mostly deep breathing and focusing on the breath) to help cope with the pain. I think the childbirth class made me feel more confident since I had a better idea of what to expect and I know it helped my husband. He was a really good coach and helped keep me calm!
Neither my husband nor I were expecting things to go so fast because she is our first child, but we’re definitely happy with the outcome since we had been hoping for a natural birth. There was no time for drugs! All the nurses told us we’d better camp out at the hospital a month prior to our due date if we have another child For now, we’re just enjoying our baby girl.
Thank you, Isis!
We are looking forward to starting our Great Beginnings group next week.
